SAG Member RJ Mitte to Address AFL-CIO Next Up Summit

Breaking Bad actor RJ Mitte is representing Screen Actors Guild this weekend at the 2011 Next Up Summit. The event, taking place in Minneapolis from September 29 – October 2, is hosted by the AFL-CIO and brings together young people to discuss organizing, the recent legislative attacks on workers’ rights and the economic crisis, which has had a disproportionate impact on younger workers. 

SAG's Pam Greenwalt Elected to ILCA Executive Council

Screen Actors Guild is pleased to announce that Executive Director, Communications, Pamela Greenwalt was elected vice president of the International Labor Communications Association Executive Council. The council is a governing board, which sets policy, direction and strategy for the organization. The election came during ILCA’s biennial convention in Seattle this past weekend.

SAG Members Awarded Union Plus Scholarships

Union Plus has awarded $150,000 in scholarships to 130 students representing 43 unions, including four representing Screen Actors Guild in the 2011 Union Plus Scholarship Program.
 
Screen Actors Guild congratulates scholarship recipients:
 
•Evan Griffith of New York, NY, whose parents Edward and Lisa Griffith are both SAG members, has been awarded a $500 scholarship.
 
•Jan Neuberger of Newtown, CT, who has been a SAG member since 1974, has been awarded a $1,000 scholarship.
 

SAG Communications Honored for Excellence

Screen Actors Guild has once again been recognized for communications excellence by the International Labor Communications Association, winning four awards for communications efforts that took place during the 2010 calendar year. "It is an honor to be recognized by our peers and we are all quite proud of the achievement," said SAG Communications Executive Director Pamela Greenwalt.
 

AFL-CIO Members: Digital Theft Hurts U.S. Workers

Screen Actors Guild President Ken Howard, AFTRA National President Roberta Reardon, American Federation of Musicians International President Ray Hair, and IATSE International President Matthew D. Loeb today asked AFL-CIO members to assist in the fight against digital theft — illegal downloads and streaming — that hurts U.S. workers, jobs, incomes and benefits.

Senator Takes Notice of Digital Theft Video

Two Oregonians concerned with digital theft are hoping to get some “leverage” with the senator who has blocked a bill that would authorize the government to shut down websites that traffic stolen digital or physical goods.

Aaron Ward and his wife Rachel Lipsey, who provide craft services for the TNT TV series Leverage, recorded a video appealing directly to Sen. Ron Wyden (D-Ore.). Wyden last year stopped the controversial Combating Online Infringement and Counterfeits Act from going to vote in the Senate, effectively killing it.
