MOVE: Member Organizing Volunteer Efforts

Overview

MOVE MOVE is a member-driven group that believes in the power of member-to-member organizing.

Made up of professional actors from all backgrounds, MOVE is a creative community of actor-activists who are building union solidarity by reaching out to their peers. In order to strengthen the union, MOVE members educate their fellow SAG members on issues that affect the professional acting community.

Another important goal of MOVE is to expand work opportunities for SAG members. As the amount of made for new-media content increases, members must mobilize to ensure that these productions are covered by SAG agreements. By getting involved, MOVE members increase job opportunities for all Guild members and strengthen the protections for actors already performing for new media platforms.

MOVE members also volunteer for union projects both within and outside of SAG, as well as charitable projects supported by SAG. MOVE recognizes the importance of being involved in the communities in which we live and work, and promoting solidarity with other unions.

Mission Statement

MOVE (Member Organizing Volunteer Efforts) is a non-partisan, member-driven committee dedicated to affecting positive change at Screen Actors Guild and in areas that influence the professional lives of working actors and performers. Through training seminars, forums and events, MOVE supports continuing member on fundamental union organizing principles, sponsors events and activities focused on industry challenges and opportunities, and promotes the rewards of union membership to SAG members, future members and relevant industry partners. MOVE engages, educates and mobilizes the SAG membership to: organize jobs under Guild contracts; help strengthen and enforce existing contracts and rules; build solidarity and capacity for action; and create leverage for the Guild’s position at the bargaining table. MOVE also identifies and develops qualified activist members for training as member organizers and team leaders for actions relating to approved SAG campaigns.
